Home > Our Work > Projects > Neighbors United Funding Collborative Neighbors United Funding Collborative The Neighbors United Funding Collaborative is a community-fund supporting the communities of Midway and Union Park. NUFC provides grants to residents, local businesses, and community organizations affected by the ongoing pandemic and civil unrest. NUFC is currently accepting grant applications from small busineses in the Midway and Union Park areas until funds are exhausted. Learn more and apply here . HISTORY OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD FUNDING COLLABORATIVE: In August 2016, the St. Paul City Council passed Resolution 16-1407 which created a task force to discuss the creation of a community benefits fund to support the neighborhoods adjacent to the Snelling-Midway Redevelopment Site. According to Midway United's account of the history, "for six months the Community Benefits Fund Task Force gathered from residents and business owners’ thoughts, ideas and aspirations for the creation of this community benefits fund and what it might support, including nearly 900 neighborhood comments during community outreach." Ideas ranged from façade improvements for local businesses to public art installations, such as sidewalk planters and artist-inspired benches. Ideas aimed to support business development, beautify streetscapes and encourage foot traffic and vibrancy. After community discussion and deliberation, The fund was named the Neighbors United Funding Collaborative (NUFC) and is the result of more than 2 years of community engagement, discussions, and outreach and officially "launched" in July 2019. NUFC has been shaped over time by community representatives from the Community Benefits Fund Task Force laid out in a 2016 City Council resolution authored by Thao. The fund is overseen by an advisory committee with community representatives from area neighborhoods, local businesses, soccer supporters groups, and those with expertise in development. Carolyn Nuelle UPDC Scholar My name is Carolyn Nuelle, and this year I'll be a graduate student at the University of Minnesota;Twin Cities. Originally from Austin, Texas, I moved to Minnesota to study at St. Olaf College, where I received my Bachelor's degree in 2018. Since then, I have enjoyed working with high school students in France as an English teaching assistant, and here in St. Paul as a college access coach. I will be pursuing a Master of Education in Second Language Teaching for French and ESL, and I look forward to becoming a teacher here in the Twin Cities. Thank you to the Union Park District Council for helping make this a possibility! Anne Westawker UPDC Scholar Hello, I’m Annie! I’ve lived in Saint Paul all my life and am a product of the Saint Paul Public Schools. I love my neighborhood and the community. In the fall, I will be starting my prerequisites for a Nursing program, with an end goal of becoming a Nurse Midwife. I am thankful for Union Park for this scholarship opportunity and assistance in my educational journey. Meryem Omar First Generation UPDC Scholar My name is Meryem Omar. I am from Ethiopia and I lived in Minnesota for 15 years. I’m a single mom and have two wonderful girls. I have studied at Hubbs Center over the past 6 years. My long term goals are to continue my education, to improve my English language skills, and become a teacher assistant. Yu Yiang First Generation UPDC Scholar I am Yu Jiang and am a current student pursuing an M.A. in Educational Leadership at Concordia Saint Paul. As a licensed parent and family educator, I am dedicated to my mission statement: "I am a servant educator committed to advancing life's success for all children and their families through purpose, passion, and love." Each scholar received a $500 scholarship towards pursuing their educational goals.
